FAQs
Common Questions
Everything you need to know about the KeyTidy T1 physical key control system before you order.
What is KeyTidy?
KeyTidy is a physical key and asset management system. It gives every key or item a dedicated position on a wall-mounted board, and uses colour-coded identity pegs so you can see at a glance what is out, who has it, and what is where it should be — all without any software.
Does it require software or a subscription?
No. KeyTidy is entirely physical. There is no app to install, no login to manage, and no ongoing subscription fee. Once it is on the wall, it works indefinitely with zero running costs.
How is it installed?
The T1 unit can be mounted directly to any wall using the included fixings, or attached to a sturdy surface with the optional steel bracket. Installation typically takes under five minutes and requires no specialist tools or training.
Can it be customised?
Yes. Each peg can be engraved with a name, number or department code. You can choose from a range of peg colours to create a colour-coding system that suits your team. Seal lengths can also be selected to match different key types.
Who is KeyTidy suitable for?
KeyTidy is designed for any organisation that needs physical accountability for keys or small equipment — including manufacturing, warehousing, facilities management, construction, education and property management. If people in your team share access to equipment, KeyTidy is relevant.
What is an identity peg?
An identity peg is a small, personalised peg assigned to each team member. When they take a key, their identity peg stays in its place on the board. Anyone looking at the board can immediately see who has the key — without asking, searching or logging anything.
Do you offer bulk or site-wide orders?
Yes. For larger deployments across multiple locations or departments, please contact our sales team at support@keytidy.com. We can discuss volume pricing, custom engraving at scale, and site rollout support.
How much does a key management system cost?
The KeyTidy T1 standard pack costs £29 including VAT, with free UK delivery. There are no ongoing costs — no software licences, no subscriptions, and no maintenance fees. Optional upgrades such as longer tamper-evident seals, metal retaining pegs, and a steel wall-mount bracket are available at checkout. This makes KeyTidy one of the most cost-effective key control systems on the UK market.
How does the tamper-evident seal work?
Each key is secured to its position on the board using a numbered, tamper-evident seal. The seal can only be removed by breaking it — there is no way to take a key and replace it without visibly breaking the seal. This means anyone glancing at the board can instantly tell whether a key has been accessed, and the broken seal provides a physical audit trail of that access.
What happens if a tamper-evident seal is broken?
A broken seal is a clear, visible signal that a key has been accessed. The numbered seal links the access to a specific position and, combined with the identity peg system, to the person who took the key. This physical evidence supports accountability investigations and deters unauthorised access without any digital logging.
How many keys can a KeyTidy T1 unit hold?
Each T1 unit holds a single key or item secured with a tamper-evident seal, paired with up to three colour-coded identity pegs. For organisations that need to manage multiple keys, several T1 units can be mounted side by side to create a shadow board or key cabinet wall station — scaling to any number of keys without additional software or infrastructure.
Does KeyTidy work without electricity or internet?
Yes. KeyTidy is a fully mechanical, physical key management system. It requires no power supply, no Wi-Fi, no internet connection, and no batteries. It works in any environment — including remote sites, basements, plant rooms, and outdoor locations — and will never go offline, lose data, or need a software update.
What is the difference between KeyTidy and an electronic key cabinet?
Electronic key cabinets use digital locks, software, and often require a subscription, internet connection, and ongoing maintenance. KeyTidy is a physical key control system with no electronics, no software, and no running costs. Instead of digital logs, KeyTidy provides instant visual accountability through colour-coded identity pegs and tamper-evident seals — so you can see who has a key at a glance, without logging into a system. For many organisations, this simplicity is more reliable and far more cost-effective than an electronic key management system. Read our full comparison: physical vs electronic key management systems.
What is included in the standard KeyTidy pack?
The standard pack includes one T1 wall-mounted unit, three colour-coded identity pegs (each customisable with up to three characters of engraving), three tamper-evident seals, and one hexagonal seal. A 250mm seal is included as standard, with 600mm and 1200mm upgrades available. Optional metal retaining pegs and a steel strengthening bracket can be added at checkout.
How long does delivery take?
KeyTidy orders are dispatched for next working day delivery across the UK. Worldwide shipping is available at checkout. You will receive a confirmation email with tracking information once your order has been dispatched.
Is KeyTidy secure?
Yes. KeyTidy combines two layers of physical security: tamper-evident seals that visibly record any access, and colour-coded identity pegs that link each key to the person who holds it. Because there are no digital components, there is nothing to hack, no software to compromise, and no data to lose. The security is physical, visible, and permanent.
Is KeyTidy suitable for small businesses?
Absolutely. Because KeyTidy has no setup costs, no software, and no minimum order quantity, it is ideal for small businesses and single-site operations that need key accountability without the overhead of a digital system. A single T1 pack at £29 inc. VAT is enough to bring full key control to a small team.
